Chou Tzu-yu, member of the Korean girl group Twice waved a Republic of China flag during a performance on Korean television. Tzu-yu, a 16-year-old Taiwanese girl received backlash for waving the ROC flag, which represents Taiwan, on camera.
The mainland of China doesn’t use this flag. This act caused her to make an apology video explaining how she’s suspending all activities in China.
A former Taiwanese singer Huang an, makes it his duty to attack entertainers who are not pro-Beijing. Huang feel like entertainers who express different political views than that of Chinese Communist Party shouldn’t appear in Chinese events. In January, Huang received plenty of traffic on social media expressing his thoughts on Chou performing at a New Years Gala in China.
The image that were used in the article was a brief capture of her in the video. The video made her look weak and timid. The article used words like girl, child, and cruel. This sets a tone on how young she is and how she may be naive about the situation.
